Gonzalez announces re-election bid – San Benito News

Incumbent Cameron County Pct. 3 Constable Adrian Gonzalez is seeking a third term in office, announcing his intent to retain his post last Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the Pct. 3 Constable’s office located within the Cameron County Annex Building off of frontage and Williams Rd. in San Benito.

Gonzalez, 48, a Resaca City native who attended San Benito public schools, worked for the county’s district attorney’s office as an investigator and sheriff’s office as a deputy before returning to San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD), where he worked as a district officer for a decade (2006-16) before running for constable.

Gonzalez holds a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCLOE) Master Peace Officer Certification. He also has certification as a mental health officer and as a K9 officer, having served as a K9 officer for the San Benito school district.

Gonzalez holds several other certifications and began his career as a reserve officer in Rio Hondo in 2002-03. He moved on to work for the Santa Rosa Police Department for approximately eight months before joining the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office. All told Gonzalez has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement.

After his stint as an SBCISD officer, which included a tenure as the district’s narcotics K9 supervisor, in 2015, Gonzalez launched a successful bid for Pct. 3 Constable, an election he won in November of 2016. In 2022, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Justice and Administration from Wayland Baptist University – Rio Grande Valley.

Gonzalez is running in the March Democratic Primary. No other challenger for either party has stepped forward.

Professionally, Gonzalez commands a constable’s office, which boasts 22 deputies, 12 being on staff full time, and an excess budget of $1.3 million. According to Gonzalez. Pct. 3 extends from San Benito, a portion of Harlingen to the Arroyo, to the river communities, including half of La Paloma, San Pedro, El Calaboz, Arroyo City, and Rio Hondo.
