Women’s eNews Selects its ’21 Leaders for the 21 Century’ 2022


21 Individuals and Organizations Advancing Gender Equality

(September 12, 2022) – Women’s eNews, the award-winning, non-profit global news organization, is pleased to announce its ’21 Leaders for the 21st Century’ honorees for 2022.

‘Women’s eNews selected these individuals and organizations due for their unwavering and pioneering support for gender equality from the health, technology and business sectors to the voting booth,” says Lori Sokol, PhD., Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief.

The honorees include:

 The Advocates for Human Rights implements international human rights standards to promote civil society and reinforce the rule of law. By involving volunteers in research, education, and advocacy, it builds broad constituencies in the United States and select global communities.

Beyond Barriers Labs is on a mission to accelerate women in leadership by democratizing access to resources and relationships to help organizations develop future-ready leaders. As thought leaders in innovation and inclusion, the firm brings unique insights on success in the digital age.

Blanche Weisen Cook, this year’s recipient of the Edie Windsor Champion for LGBTQIA+ Award, is an historian, journalist, activist and author of many books and articles, including  a three volume biography of Eleanor Roosevelt (Penguin), 

The Foundation United is a catalytic platform to end sexual exploitation, abuse and trafficking through collaborative, systemic change. Through their global initiatives focused on prevention, equipping frontline protectors, and educating the masses, they deliver scalable, high-impact solutions reaching the populations which are most vulnerable to this crime.

Julia Haart is a feminist activist, author of the NY Times bestseller, Brazen: My Unorthodox Journey from Long Sleeves to Lingerie, and the subject of the Netflix Series, My Unorthodox Life,

The Jewish Women’s Foundation pursues and promotes a world in which all women and girls are ensured a healthy and supported environment — a world in which we all have equal opportunity for economic, religious, social and political achievement.

Kisha Mays is the Founder and CEO of Just Fearless and HERstory Connections, which provides resources, funding, and tools for women business owners globally to help their businesses thrive. Our goal is to help 1,000,000 Female Founders generate a minimum of $1,000,000 in annual revenue by December 31, 2025.

Luminary Legacy is a first-of-its-kind global platform and professional networking hub created for women, women-identified, and male allies to address the systemic challenges impacting women across all industries and sectors. 

Organon is a global healthcare company formed through a spinoff from Merck to deliver impactful medicines and solutions for women to live healthier lives every day. Organon’s solutions specifically focus on reproductive health, heart disease, allergies and asthma. 

Paramount Global/CBS created an expanded database of performers with disabilities in consultation with advocacy groups, outreach, independent research and open calls. CBS then applied these new resources in the 2022-2023 broadcast and pilot season and is actively rolling them out across Paramount Global brands.

The CBS Performers with Disabilities Talent Initiative will also afford select performers the opportunity to participate in a series of customized career advancement programs over the course of the broadcast season. They include:

PowHer is an inclusive statewide network committed to securing economic equality for all New York women through representation at all tables from politics and finance to entertainment and the military,

Tara Health Foundation improves the health and well-being of women and girls in the US through the creative use of philanthropic capital that furthers its mission in sectors that are key to advancing health and economic outcomes for women.

Vote Mama PAC seeks to normalize moms running for office in the US, to help build a world where childcare, paid family leave, maternal health, and education are not considered “women’s issues,” but infrastructure issues that affect every American. 

Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC) supports and accelerates business development and growth, targeting women and serving all diverse business owners, in order to strengthen their participation in, and impact on, the economy, throughout the Midwest.

Women Impact Tech is building a community for women in technology to inspire, empower, and advance gender equity – a safe haven – for collaboration, professional growth and belonging that will inspire, educate, empower, and advance women in technology. 

Dorothy Height Champion for Civil Rights Honoree: Alfreda Robinson is the Associate Dean, Litigation & Dispute Resolution Program at GWU Law School, a Past President & CEO of the National Bar Association, and played a key role in co-chairing Obama for America’s African-American Leadership Council.

ERA Coalition/Fund for Women’s Equality Equal Voice | Equal Future is a new digital hub that elevates the voices of young people, LGBTQIA+ people, BIPOC, and other underrepresented communities front and center to tell their first-hand stories to influence policymakers and fueling economic and cultural change in support of these communities — including enshrining the ERA in the Constitution.

Victims First is on a mission to support, empower, and protect victims of mass casualty crime through rapid response, financial assistance, and community preparedness education, as well as care support and advocacy for policies that help all victims/survivors by engaging directly with families of the deceased.

Breakthrough Film of the Year:

THE AMERICAN DREAM AND OTHER FAIRY TALES

In this film, Abigail Disney grapples with America’s profound inequality crisis, exploring systemic injustice thru her family’s story: “It is my love letter to and cry of outrage on behalf of the beautiful people who keep Disney ticking every day.“ The film opens in Orlando September 16 and launches in New York, additional markets, and on VOD September 23.

About This Event:

The Awards Gala will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 26th, at Club 101 in New York City from 10am – 3pm (a light breakfast and full luncheon will be served). In addition to celebrating this year’s honorees, the Gala Luncheon will include, for the first time in Women’s eNews’ 22-year history, a series of panel discussions* addressing some of the most important issues impacting women and girls today including health, business, diversity, leadership and philanthropy. A private networking reception will also be held in the evening of Oct. 25th at the residence of Julia Haart, subject of the Netflix series, My Unorthodox Life, in Tribeca, NYC, for honorees, chairs and their guests only.
