Construction impacts for the week of Oct. 1, 2023

Berthoud to Johnstown

Closures:

Larimer and Weld County:

Sunday and Monday night, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the northbound I-25 left lane between Larimer County Road 14 and Colorado Highway 402 will be closed for shifting barriers.

The following closures will take place on northbound I-25 between LCR 14 and CO 402 for a traffic shift:

    •    Tuesday, 9 p.m. to midnight, I-25 left lane closure

    •    Wednesday, midnight to 5 a.m., I-25 right lane closure

Thursday night, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the northbound I-25 left lane will be closed between CO 402 and Colorado Highway 56 for sign structure installation.

Sunday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. through Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 5 a.m., the southbound I-25 off-ramp at Weld County Road 48/Colorado Highway 60 will be closed to will allow crews to place new signage caissons and install new guardrail near the ramp. Motorists should follow posted detour signage in the area and plan for 10-15 minute delays.

    •    Southbound I-25 traffic intending to exit at Johnstown will continue south to Berthoud (mile point 250), turn around and travel north to mile point 252.

Saturday, Oct. 14, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Saturday, Oct. 21, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., southbound I-25 will be temporarily closed between CO 402 and CO 60 to allow crews to install a new overhead signage structure and a message board across the highway north of mile point 253. Motorists should follow posted detour signage in the area and plan for 20-25 minute delays.

    •    Southbound I-25 traffic will exit at CO 402 (mile point 255), turn right and travel west to US Highway 287, turn south and continue to Colorado Highway 66, turn left and travel east to re-enter southbound I-25 at mile point 243.

    •    Traffic on CO 402/E. County Road 18 intending to travel south to Larimer County Road 16 via I-25 will be diverted to County Road 7 southbound.

Other Work Not Requiring Closures

    •    Guardrail work will continue near I-25 at LCR 16.

    •    Asphalt milling, sign caisson work, and Installation of signs will take place sitewide along southbound I-25.

Lane closures for the week of Oct. 1:

    •    Sunday and Monday night: northbound I-25 left lane closure between MP 253-255.

    •    Tuesday night: northbound I-25 left lane closure between MP 253-255.

    •    Wednesday morning: northbound I-25 right lane closure between MP 253-255.

    •    Thursday night: northbound left lane closure between MP 250-255

Johnstown to Fort Collins

To perform concrete finishing work, full closures of the northbound I-25 off-ramp to US Highway 34 off-ramp will take place nightly, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Friday.

Northbound I-25 to US 34 off-ramp traffic will continue north on I-25 to Exit 259/ Crossroads Boulevard and turn left. Continue west to go southbound on I-25 to Exit 257 / US 34.

To perform final striping operations on the new I-25 roadway:

    •    Intermittent closure of the southbound I-25 off-ramp to Crossroads Boulevard will take place from 9 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday.

    •    Southbound I-25 off-ramp to Crossroads Boulevard traffic will continue south on I-25 to Exit 257/US 34 and continue back on northbound I-25 to Exit 259/Crossroads Boulevard.

    •    Intermittent closures of the southbound I-25 off-ramp to CO 402 and southbound I-25 on-ramp from eastbound US 34 will take place from 9 p.m., Monday until 5 a.m., Tuesday.

    •    Southbound I-25 off-ramp to Colorado Highway 402 traffic will continue south on I-25 to Exit 252/Colorado Highway 60, turn east and continue onto the northbound I-25 on-ramp. Continue north on I-25 to Exit 255/ CO 402.

    •    Southbound I-25 on-ramp from eastbound US 34 traffic will continue east on US 34 over I-25 to Centerra Parkway. Turn north on Centerra Parkway and proceed to Crossroads Boulevard. Turn west on Crossroads Boulevard and continue to the southbound I-25 on-ramp.

    •    Intermittent closures of the southbound I-25 off-ramp to Harmony Road will take place from 9 p.m., Tuesday until 5 a.m., Wednesday.

    •    Southbound I-25 off-ramp to Harmony Road traffic will go south on I-25 to Exit 262/Colorado Highway 392 and turn left. Continue back onto northbound I-25 to Exit 265/Harmony Road.

Daytime single lane closures on southbound I-25 will take place between Mulberry Street and Prospect Road daily from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Single lane closures on I-25 between CO 402 and Harmony Road will take place nightly, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Friday.

Firestone Mobility Hub

Daytime work, Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Southbound I-25

    •    Southbound traffic will be shifted to the right 24/7 through October.

    •    Caution: Watch for workers on foot and operating equipment.

    •    Trucks will merge with left lane traffic from the left shoulder. No lane changing in work zone.

Northbound I-25

    •    Trucks will exit the highway from the left lane. Do not follow trucks into the work zone.

    •    Lanes narrow slightly through the work zone – Watch for wide vehicles.

Future Closure: Sunday, Oct. 1

The northbound off-ramp at CO 119 and the right lane of I-25 from MP 239-241 will also be closed with a detour for off-ramp traffic.

Detour: Motorists will travel north beyond Exit 240 to Exit 243, CO 66 Longmont/Lyons – take the off-ramp to westbound CO 66 and use the southbound I-25 on-ramp to access I-25 southbound, exiting at Exit 240 to CO 119.

The speed limit for southbound and northbound I-25 is 55 MPH through the active work zone.  

East I-25 Frontage Road

    •    The construction crew will be setting a southbound traffic shift into the middle turn lane.

    •    Flaggers will be in place to guide traffic.

Southbound Frontage Rd./I-25 On-Ramp

    •    Construction crews will be working on the left shoulder behind barrier on the left lane and shoulder.

    •    One lane of through traffic.

Park-N-Ride

The current Park-N-Ride will be closed on Monday, Oct. 2. A portion of the newly constructed Park-N-Ride will open for use at the same time.

Any vehicles remaining after that date will be towed at owner expense on Tuesday, October 4. Please remove any vehicles before that date, as the construction schedule is subject to change.

The I-25 North Express Lanes Project provides a Courtesy Patrol during commute hours (6 to 9 a.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) to assist with disabled vehicles within the Project limits from Johnstown to Fort Collins.

About the Project

Communities along the I-25 North corridor are expanding rapidly, contributing to major economic growth in northern Colorado. The Colorado Department of Transportation is supporting this growth by delivering the expansion of I-25 North. Improvements are currently underway along I-25 between Berthoud and Fort Collins (with more to come from Mead to Berthoud).

This project brings economic, environmental and quality of life benefits for northern Coloradans by:

    •     Making safety improvements to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities.

    •     Decreasing travel time and increasing trip reliability.

    •     Reducing emissions and improving freight efficiency.

    •     Improve congestion and safety.

    •     Rebuilding aging and obsolete infrastructure.

    •     Improving bicycle, pedestrian and transit connectivity.
