Former YouTube Creator Ruby Franke Pleads Guilty to Child Abuse Charges –

Utah mom Ruby Franke, known for the once-popular “8 Passengers” YouTube channel, pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree felony aggravated child abuse, according to CBS News. Franke, 41, initially faced six charges, but two were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. The sentencing is scheduled for February 20, following the acceptance of the plea deal by Judge John J. Walton.

Ruby and her husband, Kevin Franke, who shared parenting advice on their YouTube channel, faced criticism for allegedly showcasing child abuse and vulnerable moments of their children. The channel was removed this year, prompting Ruby Franke to start a new venture, ConneXions Classroom, focused on counseling.

The plea deal revealed that the abuse occurred under the influence of business partner Jodi Hildebrandt. Franke agreed to testify against Hildebrandt, who also faces child abuse charges. In a statement by Winward Law, Franke, described as a devoted mother, was said to be committed to improvement. The statement accused Hildebrandt of isolating Franke from her extended family, older children, and husband.

On August 30, Franke and Hildebrandt were arrested and charged after a neighbor called 911 when Franke’s 12-year-old son sought help, displaying signs of abuse. The boy had duct tape on his ankles and lacerations from being tied up. Hildebrandt treated wounds on his ankles and wrists with ropes, cayenne pepper, and honey, according to the 12-year-old. Forced labor, sunburns, denial of food and water, and physical abuse were all detailed in the plea agreement.

Franke’s 10-year-old daughter was also found at Hildebrandt’s house, leading to the hospitalization of both siblings. Neighbors had raised concerns about the children, claiming they were often left alone without supervision.

Hildebrandt’s next court hearing is scheduled for December 27, with no response from her attorney. Meanwhile, Kevin Franke has filed for divorce, and his lawyer denies any involvement in the abuse.
