“There were several events in Washington recently timed to Mardi Gras, and that gave us a unique opportunity to talk with state and federal officials about issues that are critically important to our small business members,” McVea said.

McVea spoke with Gov. Jeff Landry about the need to reduce taxes on small businesses and talked to Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple about reducing costs and improving the availability of insurance for Main Street businesses.

In addition, McVea met with Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landy about streamlining regulations for small business owners and ensuring they’re always made aware of new rules proposed and implemented by executive branch agencies.

“Events such as these are important because they allow us to chat with officials in a less formal setting,” McVea said. “Hopefully, the conversations we have with them now will lead to pro-small business legislation when lawmakers return to Baton Rouge for their regular session in March.”
