Celebrate the breadth of Latin cuisine and dine out for a good cause this July during Latin Restaurant Weeks. It returns for its fifth year from July 7 through July 21, and showcases local Latin and Caribbean restaurants, chefs, coffee houses, bakeries and food trucks all across the Houston metroplex. Participants will offer special menus, discounts and deals around town, with over 10 different Latin American countries being represented — such as El Salvador, Venezuela, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
Latin Restaurant Weeks is a branch of the Feed the Soul Foundation, a non-profit that supports marginalized entrepreneurs in the culinary industry by providing resources for business development, scholarships and emergency funding. This year, four Houston-based, Latin-owned restaurants will each be awarded a $10,000 investment. Last year, beneficiaries included Andes Café and Gusto Gourmet.
Notable specials include a $14, three-course dinner from Made in Medellin in Katy that features an empanada de carne, hamburguesa and an alfajor dessert cookie. Head over to Gran Colombia in Spring for a $24, three-course dinner of dedito de queso, a tipiquito platter, flan Colombiano and a beer or agua fresca to accompany your meal. Seafood lovers might be interested in the menu at Mexican-hotspot La Fisheria in downtown Houston. It includes a three-course menu for a cool $45 with ceviche natural, tamal de elote con camarones and the signature Pulpo a la Parrilla.
New additions to the event include buzzy River Oaks newcomer Ojo de Agua, Old Sixth Ward general store and barbecue mainstay Henderson & Kane, viral sensation Space City Birria Tacos, Dominican soul food restaurant Comfort Foodies, vegan eatery Veegos, Cranky Carrot Juice Company, Big Owl Craft Brew House and many others. Over a hundred listings of participating businesses can be found on the Latin Restaurant Weeks website.
Another notable feature of this year’s event is the return of ¡Sabor!, a crowd-favorite food and beverage tasting event (date TBA). This is the first time it’s been held since 2019.
Whether you’re out in the suburbs or smack-dab in the 610-Loop, there are options aplenty. Don’t miss out on this two-week celebration that supports a significant part of Houston’s culinary industry.
Food, fitness and family are the pillars of my life. Growing up in a Persian household, my mom instilled a love of cooking and food in me and that has continued as an adult. I love traveling, trying new cuisines/dining out, cooking at home and hosting dining parties, collecting cookbooks and learning more about all the facets of food in general. I have lived in Texas and the west coast and just recently settled down in Houston and am loving it.
