Celebrate Latino-Owned Businesses During Latin Restaurant Weeks, Oct. 6-20 | Latino Voices | Chicago News

If you’re looking for delicious ways to enjoy Latin American culture this Hispanic Heritage Month, you’ve got two weeks coming up that will fit the bill. From Oct. 6-20, participating Latino-owned restaurants throughout Chicago are offering special menus to celebrate the cuisines of Latin America.

“The beautiful thing about Latin Restaurant Weeks is the diversity within the diversity,” said Latin Restaurant Weeks founder Karinn Chavarria. “So, not only about the different types of cuisines and different nationalities that we have, but also the type of dining — for fast casual places, you can enjoy Colombian coastal cuisine from places like Arepa George. If you’re looking for something, like, that offers a prix fixe menu, elevated ambiance with a water view, we can go down to Azul Mariscos. It’s about celebrating the ownership and the resilience that people in the culinary industry have, namely Hispanics.”

Chavarria said diners can expect to see creative specials from the chefs for the event.

“You might see a taco flight; you might see a combo deal,” Chavarria said. “Whatever you do take advantage of, just know it’s a limited-time special only and they’re kind of taking their time to create something special for the community. We want the consumers to go out and enjoy, try something new for the first time … and find a new favorite, too.”

In addition, Latin Restaurant Weeks is partnering with the Feed the Soul Foundation nonprofit, which was founded by Black Restaurant Weeks to support marginalized entrepreneurs in the culinary industry.

A list of participating restaurants can be found at the Latin Restaurant Weeks website.
